All of the following photos were done by Ross Taylor, and all taken between 1976 and 1980, and they’re all copyright. First one above is The Dead Boys’ Cheetah Chrome with the Viletones’ Steven Leckie. Cheetah is the only non-local featured in our feature doc The Last Pogo Jumps Again, because The Dead Boys played in Toronto a lot and Cheetah is awesome. (When the DVD release happens in 2014, the “added features” will include interviews with other non-locals like The Stranglers’ Hugh Cornwell, The Dictators‘ Adny Shernoff, The Police‘s Andy Summers, NYC filmmaker Amos Poe, legendary NYC photographer/manager/cool guy Danny Fields, and The Ramones‘ Tommy Ramone amongst others.)
The Demics‘ bassist Iain Staines with lead singer, the late Keith Whittaker. Originally from London, Ontario.
Teenage Head‘s lead singer, the late great Frank “Frankie Venom” Kerr.
More Frankie Venom with his “Disgusteen” t-shirt.
Frankie Venom spreads his legs.
Teenage Head’s Frankie Venom in focus and guitar player Gordie Lewis in the background.
Johnny & The G-Rays’ Johnny MacLeod. Him and fellow original G-Ray Harri Palm will be playing a gig at the Rivoli on November 9 with The Mods.
The Fab Four: The Ramones play Toronto for the first time at the New Yorker Theatre September 24, 25, 26, 1976. Game changer.
The Viletones’ Steven Leckie smashes a guitar at the Outrage concert in 1977.
Steven Leckie leaps in the air as Gambi Bowker, amongst others, looks on.
Zero4’s Zero, sporting illegal studded armbands, probably bought from New Rose. In 1977, the police viewed anything studded as “illegal weapons” and would confiscate them, so Margarita Passion would sell them, literally, under the counter at her store.
The Last Pogo Jumps Again opens theatrically at The Big Picture Cinema at 1035 Gerrard Street East in Toronto on Friday November 1, and runs to Wednesday November 6.
